Required Staff and Patients for Clinical Trials
When the network is offered a new trial protocol, the first task, in addition to finding the clinical trial unit, is to find the required and qualified investigators and other research staff. Employees for possible trials can register through FINPEDMED. Registration is necessary as the investigator's qualifications and experience in paediatric clinical trials are included in the information for membership. Other research staff, e.g. research nurses, can contact the network's office, after which they should send their CV (Curriculum Vitae) to the sponsor of the trial in question, who then makes the decision of hiring the applicant.
Adult or adolescent patients for clinical trials are often recruited e.g. through advertisements in newspapers. Advertisements for clinical trials on younger children are very rare as patients are usually recruited through the patient's own physician. However, inquiries on clinical trials can be requested via the FINPEDMED office, which then conveys the information about the trial in question to the investigators who then, in turn, can answer the inquiries in the best suitable way.
